about me

Educator. I have designed, developed, and taught courses in professional and public writing as well as rhetorical criticism and style. My approach to curriculum design and teaching centers on experimentation, innovation, and the future of writing.

Researcher. My scholarly work explores the intersections of rhetoric, new media, algorithmic culture, and writing program administration. This deep understanding informs my practical applications, guiding the design of intuitive learning experiences and effective communication strategies. I thrive on asking the right questions to help individuals and businesses clearly articulate their vision and achieve their goals.

Innovator. Beyond the university, I am the co-founder of two tech startups. The Write Class, powered by Boise State, is writing placement application that gathers student input on their writing experiences to match them with their first college writing course. Interlocutoring builds intelligent learning platforms for improved business communication. Our flagship tool, The Syntactic, uses advanced analytics and rhetorical insights to help small businesses find their voice, refine their messages, and achieve measurable growth.

Leader and mentor. I have fifteen years’ experience in higher education leadership, and I held positions in program management, business development, and tech writing in the dotcom/web consulting sector. I consult with individuals and organizations on writing program administration, professional transitions, and writing curriculum and placement.

Writer. I've spent over a decade teaching about and researching the everyday - topics from social media to television and popular culture to online dating and marriage. Not surprisingly, the everyday is important to me. As the commonplaces of my life change, my writing and observations are a means to document ongoing journeys, offering insights into the structures that shape our experiences, and perhaps, illuminating pathways for others curious about what comes next.
